A LETTER FROM BRISTOL/ UNA LETTERA DA BRISTOL
So, Squire Trelawney went to Bristol. The Doctor and I waited for news.

After two weeks, a letter arrived. It said: “Dear Doctor Livesey and Jim, I have found a wonderful ship. She is called the Hispaniola. I have found some excellent sailors, too. The captain’s name is Smollett. And the cook is called Long John Silver. He has only got one leg, but he is an experienced sailor and a very honest man. Come to Bristol tomorrow! The men want to sail next week. Everyone wants to find treasure! Yours, Squire Trelawney.”
Dopo due settimane arrivò una lettera. Diceva: “Cari Dottor Livesey e Jim, ho trovato una nave meravigliosa. Si chiama Hispaniola. Ho trovato anche degli ottimi marinai. Il nome del capitano è Smollett. E il cuoco si chiama Long John Silver. Ha solo una gamba, ma è un marinaio esperto e un uomo molto onesto. Venite a Bristol domani! Gli uomini vogliono salpare la prossima settimana. Tutti vogliono trovare il tesoro! Vostro, Cavalier Trelawney.”
“So everyone knows we are looking for treasure,” said the Doctor. “The Squire talks too much. I hope there’s no trouble.”
I was anxious too, about the cook with one leg. But I didn’t say anything.
“Così tutti sanno che stiamo cercando un tesoro”, disse il Dottore. “Il Cavaliere parla troppo. Spero che non ci siano problemi.”

MEETING LONG JOHN SILVER/ L’INCONTRO CON LONG JOHN SILVER
Next day, the Doctor and I went to Bristol. First we went to see the ship. It had big, white sails.
Il giorno dopo, il Dottore ed io andammo a Bristol. Per prima cosa andammo a vedere la nave. Aveva grandi vele bianche.
Squire Trelawney was in the cabin. “We sail tomorrow,” he said. Then Long John Silver, the man with one leg, came in.
Il cavalier Trelawney era nella cabina. “Partiamo domani”, disse. Poi entrò Long John Silver, l’uomo con una gamba sola.
He had blonde hair, a big smile and a friendly face. A blue and red parrot sat on his arm.
Aveva i capelli biondi, un grande sorriso e un viso amichevole. Un pappagallo blu e rosso era seduto sul suo braccio.
“Pieces of Eight! Pieces of Eight!” Said the parrot.
“Hi, Jim,” said Long John Silver. “Nice to meet you! This is my parrot.”
“Pezzi da otto! Pezzi da otto!” Disse il pappagallo. “Ciao, Jim”, disse Long John Silver. “Piacere di conoscerti! Questo è il mio pappagallo.”
“What are Pieces of Eight?” I asked.
“They’re Spanish gold coins,” answered Silver, smiling. “If you have any more questions, please come and find me, Jim. You and I are going to be friends. But I have work to do now. Goodbye.”
“Cosa sono i pezzi da otto?” Chiesi.
“Sono monete d’oro spagnole,” rispose Silver sorridendo. “Se hai altre domande, per favore vieni a trovarmi, Jim. Tu ed io diventeremo amici. Ma ora ho del lavoro da fare. Arrivederci.”
“You were right,” I said to the Squire. “Silver is an honest man”.

MEETING CAPTAIN SMOLLETT/ L’INCONTRO CON IL CAPITANO SMOLLETT
Suddenly Captain Smollett arrived. He was very angry.
All’improvviso arrivò il Capitano Smollett. Era molto arrabbiato.
“Someone has talked too much,” he said. “All the men know we are looking for treasure. Even the cook’s parrot knows! I don’t like it. It’s very dangerous.”
“Qualcuno ha parlato troppo”, disse. “Tutti gli uomini sanno che stiamo cercando il tesoro. Anche il pappagallo del cuoco lo sa! Non mi piace. È molto pericoloso.”
“What shall we do?” asked the Doctor.
“Che cosa dobbiamo fare?” chiese il dottore.
“We must put all the guns near your cabin,” said the Captain. “And don’t show ANYONE the map of Treasure Island!”
“Captain, this is Jim, the ship’s boy,” said the Squire.
“Nice to meet you, boy,” said the Captain. “Now go to the kitchen and get to work. I’ll have no favourites on my ship.”
“Dobbiamo mettere tutte le pistole vicino alla sua cabina”, disse il Capitano. “E non mostri a NESSUNO la mappa dell’Isola del Tesoro!”
“Capitano, questo è Jim, il mozzo”, disse lil Cavaliere.
“Piacere di conoscerti, ragazzo”, disse il Capitano. “Ora vai in cucina e mettiti al lavoro. Non avrò favoriti sulla mia nave.”
“What a terrible man!” said Squire Trelawney.
“You are right,” I said.
“Che uomo terribile!” disse lo scudiero Trelawney.
